At The Movies- 90's Edition: Men In Black

This year for our "At The Movies" series we are going through 90's movies to use as a launch pad into God's word. Men in Black is a classic movie to start our series off with. It has a great mixture of action, sci-fi, and comedy with fantastic actors. The underlying theme of this film is one to glean some principals from. Tune in this week to learn how Christians are supposed to live in an opposing world.

We took all of our equipment and had our morning service at Hugh Macrae Park, and it was a perfect ending to this series. We strive to be God Chasing, Grace Shaped, Love Agents. Many things in life have shaped us into who we are today. "Grace Shaped" is one of our values at Venture and it simply means instead of being defined by our past, we are defined by God's grace. Jesus paid the ultimate price for us to have life to the full and it comes with a sense of peace that says you are not who you were anymore, but who you are in Christ. 

Manifesto: God Chasing

It's always good to have a reminder of vision. A time set aside to recalculate and remember why we are doing what we are doing. Through this series "Manifesto" we are doing just that. We are taking three weeks to look at our core values and share the vision of why does Venture Church exist among many other churches in Wilmington.

Walk The Walk: Self Control

In our last week of "Walk The Walk," we talk about the last of the nine fruit of the Spirit, self-control. It is a part of life in general that is challenging especially for the culture we live in where we can get what we want as fast as we want. Jesus' example and teaching pose a much better way to live with self-control and walking in His Spirit. It's simple, but it's not easy. It is worth every bit of self-control needed.

Jesus calls himself the vine and the Church his branches. This theme coincides with Walk the Walk because as we need to keep in step with the Spirit of God, likewise we need to stay in the vine.
